March 26, 2008 The nation's first case of West Nile Virus for 2008 was confirmed in the southeast Valley in Maricopa County. With the unseasonably warm weather this spring, now is the time to prepare yourself to prevent the spread of this deadly disease.

West Nile Virus is spread by infected mosquitos and birds and can make humans very ill. You can help stop the spread and protect yourself from contracting West Nile Virus by following these simple rules:

dotClear your yard of all standing water.
dotChange indoor and outdoor plant and pet water often.
dotRepair or replace leaky hoses and faucets.
dotRedirect air conditioner run off for proper drainage.
dotWear insect repellent containing DEET outdoors.
