Information & Referral (I&R) Specialist - I

Starting hourly wage: $9.00

Purpose of Position
To link clients who need information or assistance with resources to the appropriate resource(s) which can help meet those needs.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
dotTo provide, through brief assessment, information and referral services to clients who call, write, or walk-in to CIR
dotTo complete and maintain client records on a daily basis
dotTo follow-up on calls to determine if clients received the needed services
dotTo provide advocacy services for clients when necessary
dotTo glean resources (newspapers, newsletters, and other publications) for new resources or services
dotTo attend all assigned staff meetings
dotTo perform other related work as required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilties
dotGood interviewing skills and techniques, e.g. Ability to establish rapport, ability to assess client's strength, ability to respect client confidentiality
dotKnowledge of human services programs
dotTolerance of different lifestyles, culture values, and the prevailing socio-economic atmosphere of the community
dotGood verbal and written communication skills
dotConversational Spanish preferred
dotAbility to establish positive professional relationships
dotAbility to understand and accept limitations inherent in position
dotAbility to work with people and their problems
dotAbility to retain information regarding agency services
dotAbility to communicate information to clients and agencies
dotPersonal warmth and friendliness
dotIntelligence and insight to understand complex personal problems and think logically about them
dotMaturity and personal adjustment to avoid letting personal feelings and problems interfere with job responsibilities
dotAbility to work harmoiously with others within CIR
dotAbility to be flexible and withstand normal pressures of telephone work
dotAware of appropriate work apparel
dotAbility to be punctual

Education and Training
dotHigh School diploma or GED
